"A life without love is no life at all."
One week in Beynac, the backdrop to the sweetest movie ever filmed, and definitely the most quotable too! Ever After, with Drew Barrymore. My mom especially loves this movie and has spent her life quoting various lines of it to us at least once a week. To say that her heart was filled to be so near the location were Prince Henry and Danielle fell in love would not do it near enough justice.
We spent a week living in a picturesque French village, visiting film locations from our beloved movie and reenacting scenes. We stayed in a lovely home while the most excited and happy to be around woman you could imagine, Martine, helped us with information for living in a French town.
Below are the pictures of the movie's scenes compared to the real life version!
"A fish may love a bird, but where will they live?" "I will build you wings!"
Beynac Chateau: the castle and courtyard of Pierre de la Pieux in Ever After compared to in real life!
"I shall go down in history as the man who opened a door!"
Danielle and Mom lying besides the fire with soot on their faces and a copy of Utopia in their hands.
"When you're as old as I am, son, now's all you've got!"
Hautefort Chateau: Prince Henry's home and the location of the magnificent ball!
"You have more conviction in one memory than I in my entire being!"
At the exact same location as where it was filmed, in the market of Sarlat, us girls sampled chocolate just like Marguerite!
"I have not slept for fear I would wake and find this all a dream."
Danielle's characteristic hairdo is two french braids in a
half-up style which Mom and I both wore while we visited her favorite places!
Thus we had an absolutely beyond words amazing experience pretending to be our favorite character, Danielle, all week! Not pictured, we also drove past her home in the movie (it's someone's actual house), strolled near the Dordogne River where she swam and met with Prince Henry, walked through the halls of the chateau where she gained her freedom, and countless other places! It was like living a dream!
Unrelated to Ever After, we found the French countryside and our Airbnb to be simply exquisite and look forward to returning someday in the future hopefully!
It was purely fantastique!
What a fun and wonderful experience to live the life of your favorite character! Great idea! Great pics! I especially like the one of you girls sampling the chocolates! Hi and hugs to all! ❤️ Love, Aunt Kathy
